报告摘要:

Although magnetism is typically associated with d- or f-shell unpaired electrons in transition metals, p-magnetism in pure hydrocarbon structures is also possible and even shows some highly interesting advantages [1]. It has been studied intensively over the last few years, and in this seminar I will present some of our own contributions to this novel field. In particular, I will focus on the open-shell character of acene and triangulene derivatives, addressing the impact of relevant parameters like size,[2] symmetry,[3] heteroatoms,[4] charge transfer[3,4] and antiaromaticity.[5]

报告人简介:

After graduating in Physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain, 2001), he performed his PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart (Germany, 2003-2007). Thereafter he performed postdoctoral research studies at the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba (Japan, 2007), at the Donostia International Physics Center in San Sebastián (Spain, 2008-2010), at the Molecular Foundry of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA, 2010-2011) and at the University of California at Berkeley (USA, 2011-2013). Thereafter he moved back to Donostia International Physics Center, where he became Ikerbasque Research Professor in 2015 and set up his own laboratory. In 2021 he joined the Spanish Reseach Council as senior scientist at the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Research Center in El Entrego. Throughout his career, the main focus of his research has been placed on physicochemical phenomena in organic materials, including thin-film growth, self-assembly, interface electronics and chemical reactions. His international recognition is proven by the Fonda Fasella Award (2013) granted by the Elettra Synchrotron (Italy), the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award (2017) granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany), as well as by other honors received in the form of competitive Marie Curie and JSPS Fellowships, an ERC Starting Grant in 2014 and a guest professor position from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2022.
