Investigating smaller and smaller objects was pushing optical science and technology since several centuries. Be it the development from single lens “microscopes” by Anthony van Leuvenhoek to see the first amoeba and bacteria, to today’s super resolution optical microscopies that allow to investigate sub-cellular structures in the tens of nanometer regime. The common denominator is that in most cases these methods provide a contrast, however, not a direct structure information. One way to obtain this is via the collection of vibrational spectra, namely Raman spectra. In general Abbes resolution limit applies to Raman in the same way as for any visible light microscopy. In order to go beyond this so far one has to utilize near-field optical concepts. In the presentation I intend to discuss the development of near-field optical Raman spectroscopy, with a particular emphasis on the scattering type technique best known as tip-enhanced Raman scattering (TERS).

Volker Deckert,德国耶拿大学教授、莱布尼茨光子技术研究所研究员,威廉希尔“国家特聘”讲座教授。Deckert教授是针尖增强拉曼光谱的发现者及技术开创者,在纳米光学、高分辨光谱学等方面做出了多项原创性工作。近年来,以第一或通讯作者身份在Nat Nanotech、Light: Sci Appl、Chem Soc Rev等高水平期刊上发表学术论文100余篇。担任国际拉曼光谱会议的会议主席及国际指导委员,主持多项德国和欧盟自然科学基金重大项目。荣获索非亚-科瓦列夫斯卡亚奖、基尔霍夫奖等重要国际奖项。
